History of Cats.
Around 10000-12000 years ago in the fertile crescent humans started building permanent settlements and doing agriculture. This attracted rodents which caused cats to stay around human settlements for food. Over time these cats evolved into felis catus, the species we know today, that lives specifically around people. Humans used cats as a way to prevent rodents and brought them around the world with them. Overtime humans relationship with cats developed into what it is today.
One of the ways cats communicate with us is through their meows. Cats don’t really meow at each other unless they’re kittens calling for their mother. When they’re grown, they’ll hiss, growl or purr at other cats but they won’t meow at them. Meowing is something they do solely to communicate with humans. Cats have learned that humans respond better to meows then other forms of communication. They’ll use their meows as a way to greet us, get our attention or to ask for food, changing the pitch, tone and intensity depending on their request.
